Notice of Data Security Incident
Kalamazoo, Michigan – February 2, 2024 – Beacon Specialized Living (“Beacon”) notified certain current and former individuals served that their personal information may have been accessed as part of a cybersecurity incident. Beacon takes the privacy and security of information in its possession very seriously and sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this incident may cause. This notice is intended to alert potentially impacted individuals served of the incident, steps we are taking in response, and resources available to assist and protect individuals.
What Happened On or around May 15, 2023, as part of a routine security review, Beacon discovered that a bad actor accessed a limited portion of Beacon’s network. We took time to conduct a thorough and holistic investigation into the matter. Upon further investigation, we determined that the bad actor may have accessed and/or obtained certain documents containing personal information of those individuals served in Beacon’s care. Beacon is providing written notice to all impacted individuals.
What Information Was Involved The following information was potentially exposed to an unauthorized third party: name, date of birth, address, Social Security number, limited treatment information, and health insurance information.
What We Are Doing Data privacy and security are our highest priorities. Upon detecting this incident, we moved quickly to initiate a response, which included containing the breach, enhancing our security measures, and engaging a specialized third-party forensic incident response firm to assist with these efforts. Enhanced security measures are in place We are also notifying all those impacted by this incident and providing credit monitoring and identity theft protection services. To date, we are unaware of any malicious use of this information and no one possibly impacted by this breach has notified us such.
