Beacon-Virginia provides exceptional day support programs to adults with developmental disabilities in Virginia. As we help the individuals we support broaden their horizons and embrace new dreams, lives are transformed and the entire community benefits.

Group Day

Beacon Specialized Living–Virginia offers Group Day services at its program sites, featuring a wide range of skill-building activities. These include arts and crafts, group engagement, exercise sessions, and interactive experiences within a variety of themed programming rooms. Through these activities, Beacon supports the development of problem-solving abilities, social and communication skills, coping strategies, and personal care skills.

Community Engagement

Beacon–Virginia offers Community Engagement services within local communities, designed to help individuals acquire, retain, and enhance the skills needed to build positive social behaviors, strengthen community connections, and increase independence. These services include a wide range of activities such as participating in volunteer opportunities, practicing money management skills through dining at local restaurants, engaging in exercise activities, and attending community-based classes and events. Individuals also practice their skills through a variety of recreational activities that they help to plan. 

Community Coaching

Beacon Specialized Living- Virginia offers Community Coaching services available for individuals who need 1:1 supports to build a skill or set of skills to address a barrier in the community. Beacon provides Community Coaching services for individuals that have an identified barrier to Community Engagement services. Through Community Coaching, our staff works with the individuals on behavior modification, volunteering when available, relationship building, social skills, safety skills, self-management and personal care needs while in the community.

This location offers Group Day, Community Engagement, and Community Coaching services, designed to spark connection and personal growth. Guided by our core principles, the program provides meaningful opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to learn, create, and thrive.

This site is ideal for individuals who are more independent and have low‑frequency, low‑intensity behavioral support needs. Participants especially enjoy hands‑on, arts‑based activities—like jewelry making—while building skills, confidence, and a strong sense of accomplishment in a truly inspiring setting.

Designed with an open layout, our center offers wide‑open spaces that allow for easy supervision while giving individuals plenty of room to laugh, socialize, and connect with friends and staff. Our program participants enjoy a variety of games and meaningful activities, all thoughtfully planned to support individual goals while keeping the day fun and engaging. Our site is well known for offering daily community outings, giving individuals the option to get out and explore every single day. We keep outings creative, exciting, and purposeful, with Community Engagement services available for individuals who love being active in the community.

Beyond activities, we pride ourselves on being a strong support system—bridging the gap between the individuals we serve and the greater community to help build long‑lasting, healthy relationships.

Conveniently located in a shopping center, our site provides easy access to nearby favorites like McDonald’s, Donte’s Italian Restaurant, and KFC. And the fun doesn’t stop there! Inside the center, participants can enjoy arcade classics, PS4, Xbox, a karaoke machine, and much more.

Willow Branch Day Program5941 Willowbranch Drive, Richmond, VA

Conveniently located just off Ironbridge Road near the Route 288 exits, this lively site is all about the music, movement, and nonstop fun! Get ready to dance—our energetic staff bring the excitement every day and love creating an upbeat, engaging atmosphere. With a DJ booth on site, the next superstar can step up, turn up the volume, and take center stage.

Participants enjoy a wide variety of fun and friendly competitions, including UNO, Bingo, Guess That Song, Karaoke, and more. (Fair warning—everyone here has a competitive streak!) The center also features an arcade room complete with stand‑up arcade classics, PS4s, and a mini pool table for showing off gaming skills.

Movie lovers will feel right at home in our theater‑style movie room, featuring comfy seating, a popcorn machine, and a rotating lineup of sci‑fi, scary, and action‑packed favorites—perfect for relaxing and enjoying a show. We also support skill‑building with on‑site laundry and kitchen equipment, helping individuals learn practical life skills they can use in other environments.

This program offers Group Day and Community Engagement services, with vans heading out every day to explore and connect with the greater community. Our staff are encouraged to share their own hobbies and interests, introducing participants to new, exciting activities and experiences. We’re excited to offer tours that fit your schedule! In addition, we host Tour Tuesdays at all of our locations. Walk‑in tours are available every Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, where you can explore our sites and learn more about our programs. We look forward to meeting you and sharing what makes our services special!

Q: What services do you provide?

A: We currently provide Group Day, Community. Engagement and Community Coaching services to adults, 18 years and older, with developmental disabilities. Our Services are funded through the DD waivers (Community Living, Building Independence and Family and Individual Supports waivers) and county funding.

Q: Where are your programs located?

A: Our programs are located throughout the northern and southern Virginia areas. Horizons Life and Horizons Explorations programs are both located in Woodbridge, our Horizons Manassas program is in Manassas, our Horizons Fredericksburg is located in Fredericksburg, and our Charming Concepts program is in the Lorton Workhouse in Fairfax. We also have our Willow Branch and Iron Bridge Day programs in Chesterfield. All our programs offer a wide variety of engaging activities and meaningful support on site and in the local community. Our programs are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Q: Can I tour the programs?

A: Yes! We welcome all interested individuals and their support teams to tour our programs to learn more about our services. All Beacon programs offer open tour hours every Tuesday. Feel free to drop by between 10a-2p to speak with a manager and learn about our programs or schedule a tour at a time that’s best for you by submitting a tour request via our website.

Q: What community activities do you offer?

A: Our program participants engage in a wide variety of community events and activities throughout the Northern and Southern Virginia, Maryland, D.C. area. All activities center around engagement with community members, volunteering, recreation and learning opportunities that encourage individuals to build community safety skills and natural supports within their community.

Q: My loved one has behavioral support needs. What behavior services do you provide?

A: We support individuals with a variety of behavioral support needs. All our staff are trained in Positive Behavioral Supports as well as Crisis Prevention Intervention so that they are equipped with the skills needed to support our individuals both on site and in the community. Collaborations, a Behavioral Support department provides comprehensive behavioral support and consultation services within our programs. Behavior Specialists develop personalized Behavior Support Plans, provide training and oversee Crisis Stabilization and Intervention when individuals may need additional support to work through difficult times.

Q: How do I apply?

A: Download or request a copy of our admission application on our website and submit your completed application. In addition to the application, we also request that you submit the following to complete the referral packet: most recent physical and Tuberculosis test, most recent psychological and psychiatric evaluations, social history, most recent person-centered plan/individual support plan (PCP/ISP) or individualized education program (IEP) most recent Support Intensity Scale report (SIS), most recent Virginia Individual Developmental Disability Eligibility survey (VIDES),most recent behavior plan and behavior data, any other assessments.

Q: My application was submitted, what happens next?

A: All applications and referrals will be reviewed by our Internal Admissions Committee. Once all necessary information and assessments are completed, a final review by our admissions Committee takes place to reach an admission decision. Our Intake Specialist communicates with the referring support team via letter regarding committee decision.
