Day Habilitation
Beacon – New Jersey’s day habilitation programs provide education and training to help adults with disabilities improve upon current skills and develop new ones that will increase independent living skills and community integration. Activities include, but are not limited to the following skill development areas:
Social & Interpersonal: Provide individualized activities that give adults more opportunities to strengthen current friendships and to develop new ones.
Community Integration: Foster greater community awareness and understanding by visiting local stores and business establishments, restaurants, libraries, parks, and unique events including plays, dancing, painting, and musicals and concerts.
Activities of Daily Living: Self-care, health & wellness, meal planning and preparation, money management including understanding and creating a personal budget.
Communication: Improve communication skills through participation in individualized expressive and receptive language activities.
Augmentative Devices & Assistive Technology: Increase personal independence through the possible use of augmentative and assistive technology.
Our Day Habilitation programs also include more specialized services for individuals who require specific medical and/or behavioral support. The medical day program includes a nurse on-site during program hours. All our day programs offer Behaviorists on staff to assist with individualized behavior supports for people with challenging behaviors.
Medicaid pays for up to 30 hours per week for most people qualified with the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities. Self-pay options are also available.
Behavioral Supports
Beacon – New Jersey provides behavioral support services to adults with developmental disabilities, using an approach which incorporates Positive Based Supports, and the evidence-based practice of Applied Behavior Analysis. Individual and functional behavior assessments are conducted, and behavior support plans are written, trained and monitored by our behaviorists who are overseen by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. The behaviorists work with the direct care staff to ensure plan integrity, and help foster the learning, growth and independence in each of the individuals we serve.
Transportation
Beacon – New Jersey provides the individual we support with transportation so they can access their surrounding community and partake in all the area has to offer. Our reliable transportation allows our individuals to gain access to services, activities and resources — whether medical appointments, shopping for groceries or personal items, visiting with friends, going to dinner or a movie, and more.
Community Volunteer Opportunities
Individuals also participate in local volunteer activities as well such as Meals on Wheels, food banks and soup kitchens, senior centers, and more.
